Teams, invitations and roles

Everything belongs to a team. Who can join one, and what they can do.

Monitors, status pages, channels and servers belong to a team, not to a person. That is what lets a colleague pick up your monitoring when you are away, and what stops it all disappearing when someone leaves.

Inviting people

Settings → Team → Invite, with their email address and a role. They get a link.

Invitations expire after 7 days. An expired one cannot be used; send another.

The invited person needs an account — if they do not have one, the link walks them through creating it first.

Roles

RoleWhat it means
OwnerFull control, including billing and deleting the team.
AdminManage monitors, channels, status pages and members.
MemberDay-to-day use.

Give people the least that lets them do their job, and keep at least two Owners on any account that matters — a single Owner is a single point of failure for your billing and your access.

Switching teams

If you belong to more than one team, switch between them from the account menu. Everything you see — monitors, incidents, settings — belongs to the team you are currently in. It is worth checking which that is before concluding your monitors have vanished.

Removing someone

Remove them from the team list. Their monitors stay: they belong to the team. Their access ends immediately.

If they were the only person receiving alerts at a personal email address, change that first. Removing a person does not remove the channel pointing at them, and nobody notices a channel that silently stopped being read.
